Four [wheel] eyes
This morning I’m calling on all six of you (ok ok, three of you) to help me choose a pair of spectacles. I need a style counsel and the best I’ve got is you lot, so don’t go letting me down.
While I don’t often wear glasses, my ability to resolve things from a long distance seems to have become more impaired in the past few years. I have no doubt that all of this time spent porn hunting working has done a number on my old blues, so now you’ll be seeing the bespectacled me quite a bit more often.
As you can probably tell, the tortoise-shelled frames are winning in my own personal election. This is probably because I would rest better in the knowledge that a hideous, harmless, friend-to-girl-and-boy like a tortoise was slaughtered in order to make me appear more intelligent.
Please do click the ‘comment’ link at the bottom of this post and chime in. I love hearing from anybody, and I don’t ever entirely trust myself with decisions of taste - remember when I laid out that girl in grade six?
One final note: keep in mind you can click on any of these photos to be taken to the appropriate Flickr page. From there you should be able to click the little ‘All Sizes’ button to go into full pore-counting mode.
Now show how much you care about our troops and vote!

Okay so numbering the pics 1 - 10, starting at the top left (cause i have this kind of time):
1.) Not bad. I think I like them slightly more then the ones to the right in #2 because they’re less rigid/square.
2.) I’m not crazy about these because they make you look like such a Silicon Valley Guy.
3.) These don’t seem bad but may be a bit lady-ish. Hard to tell via photos.
4.) See #3.
5.) These seem pretty good, definitely better than #6. I like the smaller square frame rather than the larger I think.
6.) The lenses are too big. See reference in #5.
7.) These are too “Silicon Valley Trying To Be Cool.”
8.) These are something a hip grandma wears.
9.) These could be cool but too round? Like would I assume you’re a professor of history or something? Which I could see you going for in a look but you have to really accept that you’d be imitating that as you’re not actually a history prof. Maybe if you carried around books and scattered papers. That’s what I associate w/glasses like these. A confused and disorganized history prof in a wrongly sized fake tweed jacket and cord pants that are of a color you see most often in barf. Sure he’s an adorable old prof, but he’s so scatterbrained and his class could be much more interesting.
10. These seem cool. Hard to tell about the upper right and left hand corners though.
Overall: 1, 5, 10 in no particular order. But I need more pics of different angles to really make a decision.

ray ban 2, then versace 1. that is my vote.

Rayban2 is too tall a lens, feels droopy.
The thing I’ve noticed with all of these is that the bows are being forced wide by your head. You need to find wider frames. This is why V3 looks the best… you took the shot NOT head on, so we can’t see if the sides are being forced out. From that angle, it looks like they’re straight (fitting properly). They APPEAR to fit the best. If in fact they’re straight IRL, then I’d say get those, and not just for the fit… Note they have the best rectangular lens ratio. The big sell is the outer top corners. See how the frame is extended along the horizontal a bit further out before connecting with the bow? And also how it’s squared off with the demensions of the bow? This is not only making them a bit wider, but also presenting us with a more unified piece. The bows don’t seem to be separate components, but part of the whole piece this way.
Note this could all be different IRL since your shot is angled, but from what I can gather from that top corner, the shot may in fact not be altering what we see too much. It’s V3 all the way. Runner up is Modo2, but be careful getting more round than that.

It’s so nice to hear from you early risers. If I get one more comment it’ll prove I have more than three people who give a shit about how I look!
6. February 2007 at 13:37
The top row is my favorite… You look good in the darker ones that are more square-shaped. Those may not be wide enough, though…
6. February 2007 at 15:19
I agree on the top row. Though maybe you should try something in a Jon Hodgeman?
6. February 2007 at 16:19
you’re going to listen to dan stapleton, a guy from minnesota, or people named jules and D? come on. ray ban 2. you aren’t the bastard child of rivers cuomo and tina fey, you have pure silicon valley lineage. don’t fight it; don’t be a hipster. do the right thing. ray ban 2.
6. February 2007 at 17:41
versace 1, and rayban 3 are my top choices. the shapes that don’t have any angles even though they’re basically rectangular seem to fit in your face best. possibly modo 1, because i know you’re shooting for that harrison ford as indy jones look.
6. February 2007 at 17:43
I like where your head is at and you know I trust your judgement. That said Pappy, your ‘name’ doesn’t envoke a pile of reliability.
6. February 2007 at 18:55
fine, look like an asshole, it’s your face
6. February 2007 at 22:13
I like Ray-Ban 3. They’re slightly futuristic; not in a sci-fi way… in a really good way. They also fit your face well, and are stylish without dominating your face.
Versace 1 is also quite stylish, but it looks like they say “VERSACE” in raised letters right near your temples, which just screams pretentious. I’m not big on words on my face to begin with, but “Versace” is near last on the list of words I would ever consider… and even that would require a lot of money coming my way.
Ray-Ban 1 looks great from afar, but up close… not so much.
If you really want to make a statement, Modo 1 is the kind of accessory I would find whimsical at first, but I know that would fade quickly and it would grow to fit you somehow after about… an hour. They do fit your face. They are the kind of glasses you could develop a symbiotic relationship with. They might affect you as much as reflect you, but that might not be a negative thing. An adventure in eyewear… Woohoo!
The rest are either bad or just boring.
Therefore I vote for either Ray-Ban 3 or Modo 1, depending on how adventurous you’re feeling with your face.

I don’t know who this pappy guy is, but I think he forgot to put HIS glasses on. RayBan2 is in the top three… of most ridiculous looking. The lenses are too tall for their width. This will have the effect of making you look really stupid, as shown in the picture above. Again, the Droopy eyed dog look. Is this guy serious?
And RayBan 3 doesn’t work because of the tappering in of the hinge as it meets the frame. Throw in the slight cateye lift to top outer corners, and you’ve got cheap 90s aesthetic written all over your face.
So it comes down to this… Even if it’s not who you are, it’s what you throw out there. SO. Do you want to look designy? Or minimalist Bono? That’s the question. Indi is out unless you’re really willing to put the work into the rest of your ensemble.
Pappy obviously just discovered the internets.
6. February 2007 at 23:12
bottom-left makes you look like a wanna-be harry potter cosplayer.
7. February 2007 at 10:39
Versace 2 or Modo 2
Versace 2 is hip, Modo 2 is geek chic.
7. February 2007 at 17:23
minnesota is droopy
7. February 2007 at 20:34
Versace #1 or Rayban #3. Definitely.
8. February 2007 at 00:04
Top row buddy. You are already off-putting enough to the general public. No reason to buy ugly glasses just to further the cause.
8. February 2007 at 09:54
A little more clarity on the Ray Bay 3 is called for. It’s not just that they look cheap, it’s that the frame has a slight inward and down angle created by the top outer corner of the frame/hinge area being a bit further out. For people like you and I who have our eyes close together, it only makes them look more so. This is not a good thing. I guess your squint in the picture isn’t helping it either. This effect can be offset by a different lens shape, but these glasses don’t do that.
8. February 2007 at 13:30
Sounds like I’m going to have to launch a second round of diligence. I’ll go in this weekend with the top five candidates and get more uniform shots from multiple angles.
8. February 2007 at 18:40
You should try and maintain a single expression…. for better judgement. I have this same trouble when choosing sunglasses.
8. February 2007 at 19:33
Ray-Ban 1 game over
9. February 2007 at 08:50
going from top to bottom, left to right, 1 being the first 10 being the last, aces are wild, I would go with the first one. But that’s just me.
11. February 2007 at 21:07
I think you should dig both your eyes out with a blunt spoon and replace them with web cams that I can control from Singapore,..
That; or Versace 2 :)
10. March 2007 at 17:34
i think the eighth glasses (kinda orange) are the best ones for you by far (even though you seem most unhappy with those glasses)…i think they blend in best with your face and hair coloring and allow your face to be seen least encumbered…i think the resulting effect is quite attractive actually
10. March 2007 at 17:38
ps…my guess would be that youre uncomfortable about your wholesome good looks…that would be my guess
